Q: What is refinishing?
A: The process involves the spraying of an aliphatic acrylic urethane polymer that will restore your surface to its beautiful and easy to clean finish. This polymer coating dries to a hard finish to maximize its durability.
Q: How is refinishing more affordable than replacement?
A: The costs of installing a new bathtub, counter top, tile wall, cabinet, etc. - which involves installation, labor, plumbing needs, and disposal costs - far exceed the price it takes for a professional to refinish your bathtub.
Q: What do I (the customer) need to do before you arrive?
A: It is important that there are no leaking faucets. All loose items must be removed from the resurfacing area, as well.
Q: Why do different companies charge different prices?
A: Cheaper prices mean less experienced technicians, that shortcuts are being taken, and/or cheaper materials are being used.
Q: Is all refinishing the same?
A: Absolutely not! Different refinishers use different products and procedures of various qualities and efficacy. There is a wide range of quality within the refinishing industry, with many companies using improper materials (i.e. using acrylic, marine, or other industrial coatings that are not engineered specifically for the surface being refinished) and equipment.
Mica Magic uses state of the art spray and ventilation equipment, which provides a superior finish and improves job-site and environmental safety by reducing the mess, waste, and odor associated with refinishing.
Our materials are specifically engineered for the surfaces that we refinish. With the Mica Magic process, items can be refinished with minimal disruption to the occupants of the home.
Q: How long will it take to refinish my bathtub?
A: Normally between 2 to 3 hours, depending on the condition of the surface. If the tub has been resurfaced before, we have to strip the previous coating, which can add 1 to 2 hours to the process. The entire refinishing process will be completed same day.
Q: What type of surfaces can be refinished?
A: Many surfaces can be refinished. Bathtubs, tile walls, shower enclosures, counter tops, cabinet doors, and cabinet boxes are the most common surfaces we repair.
Q: What type of material do you use?
A: We use the highest quality material available, which is an aliphatic acrylic urethane.
Q: What colors are available?
A: We can refinish your surfaces in virtually any color! For bathtubs our standard colors are White and Kohler Almond. For our Multi-spec colors, please visit the "Colors" section of our website to see our current Stock and Special Order colors.
Q: How long will it last?
A: If proper care and cleaning procedures are followed, your newly refinished surface will look beautiful for up to 12 years. Tile Walls will remain beautiful indefinitely.
Q: How long must I wait after refinishing until I can use my surface?
A: Our surfaces can be used 24 hours after we have completed the refinishing job.
Q: What is the warranty?
A: All of our services come with a 5-year warranty. Please see our "Warranty" section for more information.
Q: Is the new finish slippery?
A: No more than a new acrylic tub. If you desire extra protection against slipping, non-slip finishes are available at an additional cost.
Q: What should I use to clean the refinished surface?
A: Any non-abrasive cleaner. Great options include but are not limited to Powerhouse Bathroom Cleaner or Scrubbing Bubbles. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, like Ajax or powdered Comet.
Q: I am remodeling right now, should I have my surface refinished now or after?
A: It is best to wait until all construction is completed. Refinishing a surface during construction increases the risk of the new surface being damaged or contaminated by the construction team.
Q: Do refinished surfaces look painted?
A: Not at all. The deep gloss applied by our refinishing process adds a "like new" look to the surface (i.e. our bath tubs resemble new porcelain).
